Profile: Sensei Paul Sweeney {4th Dan }
Organisation: Sensei Sweeney is
the senior instructor in Omagh WadoKai; he founded The IWKF {Irish
Wado Kai Federation} that is the Omagh group of clubs. We are
members of the AIKW {All Ireland Karate Do WadoKai Federation} and
ONAKAI {Official National Amateur Karate Association of Ireland} and
direct members of World Wado Kai Japan.
Achievements: All of Sensei
Sweeney’s senior grades have been awarded by senior Japanese Sensei,
He was awarded his 1st Dan in August 1987 by Sensei Iwasaki, 2nd Dan
by Sensei Shiomitsu, 3rd and 4th Dan by Sensei Sakagami. He won the
N.I. Senior kumite title 1986, the N.I. senior kumite title 1987,
the All Ireland senior kumite title 1987 and captained the senior
team winners the same year. He has been a member of the Irish Squad
from 1987 to 2002 and has competed all over the world, including the
World Championships in Japan 1999 and he reached the quarter finals
in the All Japan Championships individual kumite { free fighting }
Yokohama 2000.
Experience: Sensei Sweeney is
the cornerstone of the Omagh group of clubs, since 1978 he has
trained under some of the most prestigious Instructors including;
Sensei Ohtsuka {10th Dan}, Sensei Sugiura} 8th Dan}, Sensei Arikawa
{8th Dan}, Sensei Suzuki {8th Dan}, Sensei Tanabe {8th Dan}, Sensei
Shiomitsu {8th Dan}, Sensei Sakagami {7th Dan}, Sensei Ohgami {7th
Dan}, Sensei Iwasaki {7th Dan}, Sensei Ishikawa {6th Dan}, Sensei
Sugsawa {5thDan}, top Irish Coach Sensei Derek Desmond {5th Dan},
and English coach Ticki Donovan{7th Dan}.
